This was my first JMBricklayer build. I did find it larger and heavier than I expected, but I love it nonetheless and I had a lot of fun building it, which took 3 partial days to complete. Since this is the STOVL variant of the F-35 platform, the F-35B, it is the configuration used by the USMC (with the vertical engine behind the cockpit). I am grateful the set came with a display platform (also assembled via bricks). The instructions didn’t allude to exactly where to mount the pylons/fuel tanks, missiles, and bombs, so I just did what I thought looked good. I put the green colored bombs inside the internal weapons bay and everything else got mounted symmetrically on the wings. There were a few areas that have weaker clutch, but this isn’t meant to be a toy so I’m overlooking that. Although I do like the approach to application of the stickers, you still have to be extremely cautious to apply them correctly, but they are still better than the Lego stickers which are so darn difficult to get straight. Most of the build is really solid and well designed. Every time I look at my completed build I think about how darn cool it really is. Overall, as a AFOL I was impressed and this certainly won’t be my last JMBricklayer build.
